Beautiful day to get off BART at the Embarcadero stop and wander amongst the vendors and catch a streetcar to Pier 35 where we caught the ferry to Alcatraz. It derives its name from the Spanish verb embarcar , meaning "to embark"; embarcadero itself means "the place to embark".
The terminal is a modern, two-level structure designed accommodate the 60 to 80 cruise ships that dock in San Francisco every year. I live close by Sonoma County and these are the best things that I love to do. If you want to do the tourist thing, then by all means, do the hop on hop off bus and the boat trip.
